Follow Up of the Day: According to a statement released by Amy Winehouse’s family, toxicology tests indicate the singer had no illegal drugs in her system at the time of her death.
While alcohol was present, the statement says it is too early to determine if it contributed to her untimely demise.
“The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process,” Family spokesperson Chris Goodman is quoted as saying. “They await the outcome of the inquest in October.”

That doesn’t mean she didn’t die of addiction. Granted, alcohol is the only drug for which the withdrawals have ever been documented to be fatal, but complications from almost any other drug addiction can be fatal as well. When 27-year-olds die suddenly like this, it’s because they had a serious heath problem and Amy Winehouse’s serious health problem was addiction.
This is an incredibly sad story and I think it would be an insult to her memory and to the kind of impact she had to deny the cause of her death.
